The Inquisitor – Yea To Recruit 20,000 Health Workers
The youth Employment Agency (YEA) has announced its readiness in rolling out its numerous modules in February, 2016 to reduce the rate of unemployment among the youth in the country.
To begin with, the agency is expected to recruit over 20,000 young people under its youth in Health Module to train and equip them as community Health Workers.
The Japanese government has extended an additional US$1.3m (about Rwf945.7m) for the Millennium Villages Project (MVP) in Mayange Sector, Bugesera District.
This funding, channelled through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), is an expansion of Japan's support to the MVP in Rwanda following a grant extended to the same project in April and December, 2014, of approximately US $2.5m.
As you climb up the winding reddish-coloured gravel road to Ruhiira - past endless dense plantations of matoke bananas - it can feel at first sight as if it is a world largely unchanged from when I was first working in Uganda close to 50 years ago.
Bananas were a staple then - for family consumption and as a mainstay of the local economy - and they still are today.
But the 50,000 or so people who live in this hilly district of small trading centres and scattered homesteads have been part of a high-profile aid initiative over the past nine years.
RUHIIRA, Uganda—
“We go!” Joshua Tusubira waves at me impatiently, swinging his leg over his motorcycle and revving up the engine. “A mama called from the deep, deep village!”
Within moments of receiving the phone call, Tusubira has connected his motorcycle to the mobile stretcher stationed at the health center, whipping his fingers at the final metal nut to spin it into place. The mobile stretcher is a bright red contraption on two wheels: a larger, more serious version of the child bike trailers that fitness-conscious parents tow in suburban America.
Stakeholders in education have called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post more trained teachers to operational areas of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority Millennium Villages Project (SADA-MVP). They made the call at separate fora organized at Fumbisi in the Builsa South District and Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region. The fora, organized by the SADA-MVP in collaboration with the two district assemblies, were aimed at discussing progress made so far by the project in the two districts.
Clean water is at the core of human well-being. With water there can be good nutrition, sanitation and health. Without it, there is poverty and disease.
Throughout the world, roughly two million children under the age of five die because of diarrhea and pneumonia – two diseases easily prevented by safe drinking water, sanitation and proper hygiene.

More than two million children die of diarrhoea every year, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). Diarrhoea is the second leading killer of children, accounting for 29 per cent of under five deaths annually.
And, like diarrhoea, many other waterborne and hygiene-related diseases such as dysentery and typhoid keep malaria haunting villages across the country.
